Roland Imperial Tobacco Company (RITCO)
- Roland Imperial Tobacco is an indigenous Zambian owned company that was incorporated in 2001 to manufacture, trade and sell cigarettes and other tobacco related products.
- Zambia grows some of the best tobaccos in the world. Most of the tobacco is currently being exported without value addition. The Zambian cigarette market has been growing at about 30% per year consecutively for the past five years. However, last five years the tobacco industry has been characterised by an aggregate decline of 44% in national tobacco output from 42.128 million kilograms in 2013 to 23.438 million kilograms in 2017. This is mainly attributed to the fall in the global demand for tobacco leading to some merchant companies at their peak being dominant players in the industry scaling down and others winding up operations. This has led to a general fall in aggregate revenue by 36% from USD 94.2 million in 2013 to USD 59.9 million in 2017. At its peak in 2013 the tobacco industry contributed 3% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
- We were created in 1999 when Japan Tobacco Inc purchased the non-US operations of R.J. Reynolds (RJRI) – yet we have roots in many of the most famous tobacco companies around the world, with a global heritage that can be traced back to the late 16th century.
- JTI is one of the fastest growing tobacco companies in Zambia. We are a dynamic group of dedicated professionals who are passionate about sourcing the highest quality tobacco leaf.
- We are a leading international tobacco company, operating in 120 countries worldwide. Our goal is to be the most successful and responsible tobacco company in the world. In Zambia, we are doing this by ensuring a sustainable supply of quality leaf while investing to improve the lives of the people in the communities where we do business.
